Experience

Ministry of Defence

Interaction Designer | Aug 2022 - Present

I’m working with the Ministry of Defence on the BMfS programme that is part of Defence Digital’s strategic drive towards digitisation across Defence which is being achieved by a £2Billion programme over the next 10 years.

I am also responsible for the design and development of the Defence Service Manual. The Service Manual is to help digital teams in Defence design and deliver outstanding digital services.

In addition, it was my responsibility to build a sharable Figma Design Library which would improve designer efficiency by allowing them to use the library in their designs. This design library ensures design consistency and reuse throughout the MOD.

Office for National Statistics

Interaction Designer | May 2020 - Aug 2022

My role at ONS was to focus on the engagement and response phases of the Census 2021 website. I was also responsible for working on the ONS design system introducing new components and patterns for various services.

Government Digital Services

Interaction Designer | Sep 2019 - Apr 2020

My role at GDS was on Brexit(transition) related services hosted on GOV.UK. This work involved interaction design, prototyping in code, testing with users, and iterating and improving online services.

I was also responsible for the design of the EU funding service as well as introducing the GOV.UK’s double opt-in feature for email subscriptions.

Servelec

UX Consultant | Apr - Jul 2019

My role was to improve the UX/UI of their Mosaic System for social care. This work involved improving the presentation of data, the design of page assets, and ensuring design consistency for their next early release.

In tandem, I also created a design system from scratch to ensure design consistency and provide a good user experience for their Mosaic System.

Interaction Designer | Jan - Apr 2019

My role was to create a design system to include design patterns for the whole Elsevier brand. To develop a fully accessible and reusable code for the developers to use in production.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service

Interaction Designer | Oct 2017 - Nov 2018

My role was to build a design system to include design patterns for the entire Elsevier brand and to develop a fully accessible and reusable codebase for the developers to use in production.

Ministry of Justice

Interaction Designer | Apr 2016 - Sep 2017

My role was to design a fast-track digital justice service. I designed the user experience for prosecutors, court administrators and legal advisers. I was also responsible for designing and prototyping usable code for the citizen-facing service ‘Make a Plea’. I produced production ready HTML, CSS and accessibility.

Defra

Interaction Designer | Jul 2014 - Apr 2016

My role was to design a high-profile digital transformation service to help farmers quickly and simply claim their European Union subsidies. I built the Rural Payments Style Guide for developers to use well-formed and accessible code to ensure design consistency throughout the service.

The Premier League

Interaction Designer | Jan 2013 - Jun 2014

My role was to design the Premier League’s extranet. The extranet was a web portal for premier league clubs, internal staff, associations and more. The old system adopted an outdated flash-based technology, which needed to adapt to modern technologies.

I was also responsible for developing the system ensuring the interface worked nicely on mobile, tablet and desktop. I worked closely with back-end developers to ensure integration ran smoothly.

The FA

UX Consultant | Jan 2011 - Dec 2012

My role was to redesign and improve the user experience for several sites the FA managed. I had to ensure all designs scaled and worked uniformly well with one another. I worked closely with a business analyst and the development team. I also worked closely with other departments to understand how they all connected and worked with each other.

Frontend Developer | Jan - Jun 2011

My role was for the complete frontend development of the company website and blog from scratch, working closely with a user experience designer, marketing manager and company director.

Capita

Frontend Developer | May 2009 - Dec 2010

My role was developing the front end as part of a team for the National Strategies project, a Government service for education. I worked closely with the design team to ensure designs looked and responded well.

AKQA

Frontend Developer | Jan - Mar 2009

My role was to develop the front end of a Nike football campaign ‘Show Your 5’ using well-formed XHTML and CSS. My expertise was focused on the visual aesthetic building blocks, working closely with a User Experience Designer and a JavaScript developer, we ensured everything looked and worked well, ready for public release.

Frontend Developer | Nov 2008 - Jan 2009

My role was to develop a collection of static pages and assets for developers to integrate into multiple eCommerce retail platforms, such as Very and Littlewoods. This work involved working with several designers and developers.

My role was to manage all aspects of the web side of the business, ensuring good design and frontend development for an e-commerce platform for the sale of memorabilia and historic newspapers.

My role was to design websites and content management systems for a wide range of different clients.

Fivesite

Lead User Interface Designer | Aug 2005 - Sep 2006

My role was to design websites and print-related material. I also pitched my ideas and concepts to the marketing manager at Weetabix. These ideas included 3D box rendering artwork produced in Lightwave 3D.

I brought a new dimension to an existing flat approach. Fivesite won the contract based on these ideas, and I was responsible for the complete design of the Weetabix website.

My role was to design travel websites and develop skills in application development using classic ASP server-side technology.
